We Found Abandoned Trains!
Mark and I went on a trip to Cooperstown, New York in July 2009 to visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
As we drove around the beautiful New York State countryside, we discovered these neglected trains somewhere around the little hamlet of Maryland, New York.
They seem to have been totally forgotten.

Those would make awesome backdrops/props for engagement or wedding pics. Great photos.

@Ms. Understood — Aren't they cool? So mysterious, too. Why were they abandoned in the middle of remote countryside?

hmmm…seem to have lost my comment.
I said..it looks like someone is living in that old train building…which would be so cool.
Like the movie The Station Agent..filmed in NJ.

@And Miles To Go — I love trains too – the old-fashioned kind.
New Jersey Memories
@caite — That old train attached to the house seemed like it was being refurbished to be a restaurant — and then abandoned.
New Jersey Memories
@Meg — thanks for visiting my blog! I'm definitely going back to your blog to mingle!

I like when they get turned into restaurants or even hotel rooms. It gives them a new use that is fun.
New Jersey Memories
@paige — yes, that second photo was apparently turned into a restaurant (along with the house) but looked abandoned.

Beautiful pictures! I have always had a strange fascination with old trains… By far my favorite way to travel 🙂 (well, with a newer one, preferably!)
New Jersey Memories
@cornflakegirl74 — I'd love to do more traveling on trains. It would be fun to go across the United States on a train, and I would love to go on the Orient Express in Europe!

Hi! I'm a fellow SITS GIRL, and I must say that I love your photos. They're really great. I don't know if I've ever come across abandoned trains, but they're really really cool!
Best wishes from one blogger to another,

New Jersey Memories
@Zabrinah — My boyfriend and I were fascinated by these trains. There was no one around to ask, because it was in remote countryside with spread-out farms. Very beautiful. Thanks for your kind words about my photos!

I know this might be old, but I know the one train engine is an old PRR GG1 engine, which surprises me that it hasn't been saved from destruction, because GG1s are almost always in Muesums now.
New Jersey Memories
When I saw these trains in 2009, they were just sitting around the countryside, forlorn and abandoned. I have no idea if they are still there.

The GG-1 belongs to the Leatherstocking Railway Historical Society in Cooperstown. It's not abandoned, just in storage. Unfortunately it's outside and not indoors.

I'm glad you liked it and that I could help!
