Cherry Blossom Trees Are Starting To Bloom

The cherry blossom trees in Newark’s Branch Brook Park are starting to bloom!

Most of the park is in Newark, but a small portion is in neighboring Belleville. They were late again this year because of the long and harsh winter.

More cherry blossom trees are being planted to replace some old trees and also to increase the amount of cherry blossom trees in the park to over 5,000!

That’s more than Washington, D.C.!

As a matter of fact, it is the largest collection of cherry blossom trees in the United States!

The park’s design was created by the firm of Frederick Olmsted, who also designed the magnificent Central Park in New York.

This year, the cherry blossom trees are still officially in the “budding” stage, since some still only have buds and some have almost nothing to show yet.

As you can see, some branches have both buds and fully formed flowers on them.

And some trees are nearing their peak bloom.
