Lakota Wolf Preserve | Columbia, New Jersey
Lakota Wolf Preserve
Lakota Wolf Preserve in Columbia, New Jersey is a special place.
Wolves that were born in captivity are able to live out their lives in the beautiful outdoors.
There are also bobcats and foxes at Lakota. Wolves, bobcats, and foxes, oh my!
The couple who run Lakota are dedicated to their animals and have run the preserve for over 15 years.
They take wonderful care of their animals and truly love them. They have been committed to educating the public about wolves.
Iโve been there, and I can see how much they love their animals!
The public can take wolf-watching tours โ donโt worry, the wolves are behind fences. They will also howl on cue!
The surroundings are beautiful.
Columbia is actually part of Knowlton Township, in the Kittatinny Valley.
I took these photos last October.

Sadly, this winter has been a struggle for the preserve because of the terrible weather and other unexpected issues. Sometimes the preserve has been closed for weeks.
Check out their website and Facebook page, too, for some gorgeous photographs and more information!
There is a wonderfully detailed description of how the wolf preserve got started here and links to websites containing professional photos of the wolves!
You can also check out Watching Bees Make Honey at Delicious Orchards and Pequest Trout Hatchery.
Thanks for visiting New Jersey Memories!

They can be vivacious, but it is nice to know someone cares enough o take care of them. You got some very nice shots.

I never knew this preserve existed in NJ! The wolves look very well cared for. The lasy=t golden colored one had a magnificent tail!
There is a large wild animal sanctuary here in Colorado that I have yet to visit. I' don't think wolves have returned in the wild to Colorado as yet, but they are definitely back in Wyoming.

They are very nice, as long as they don't come close to me, good shots.
Have a nice rest of the week!

They're beautiful animals. It's a shame they have a bad reputation, isn't it?
Thanks for the informative post, and I hope you'll come share at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2015/03/springtime-at-last.html

What beautiful animals, and what important work they are doing, educating the public. Too many people seem not to understand or care about the important ecological role these predators play in the keeping deer and rabbit populations under control. My WW

They sure are!

I agree that it's great that they are educating the public about the wolves. There are a lot of misconceptions about these animals.

I love your blog but have such problems with your host platform. It doesn't let you comment on my WordPress, I just wrote you a long comment and it wouldn't recognize my credentials AND I'm on your Honor Roll – YIKES! Anyway your blog on Lokada inspired me to take my husband and 2 friends on a Magical Mystery Tour. They had no idea where we were headed when we left Manhattan at 8AM last week. What a delightful trip. The experience was extraordinary and I will be posting a blog about our adventure and promoting this great place in my own blog. BTW I did send you an email to your blog email address but I think you told me once that's not the best way to reach you! Thanks again for sharing this NJ treasure. Lori aka pbenjay

Hi I loved this blog so much that I planned a Magical Mystery Tour for my husband and two friends. They had no idea where were headed when we left Manhattan at 8:00AM last week. It was a superb surprise and a delightful trip. We were lucky that there wasn't a school tour that day as we had a private tour with about 8 people. THANK YOU for posting about this wonderful place and the caring people who run it. I will be posting about it in my own blog too and hope more people go visit. I tried to sign my name in but your blog says it doesn't recognize my WordPress credential which is really ODD because I'm on your Honor Roll. Lori aka Pbenjay

I'm still trying to figure out the Blogger/WordPress problems. I have set it up that any comments on posts over 10 days old are monitored because I have had an influx of spam comments on older posts.
Anyway, I am really glad that you loved Lakota Wolf Preserve! It really is an interesting place!
