Canfield-Morgan Farm & Museum in Cedar Grove, New Jersey
Canfield-Morgan Farm & Museum is a historic house located in Cedar Grove, New Jersey.
According to the Canfield-Morgan House website.
The Cedar Grove Historical Society welcomes you to the Morgan Farm and Museum. This special property is a 14-acre site that was farmed continuously from the mid-1800’s until 1985 when Courtenay Morgan donated the farm to the Township of Cedar Grove. Today the circa 1845 house functions as a museum depicting it much as it was in the early 1900’s, with related farm equipment in the barn.
The Mission
The site is still open to this day. In the summer there is a Farmer’s Market according to the Mission of the Farm::
From 1845 until 1985, The Canfield-Morgan Farm, Cedar Grove’s last operating farm, engaged in subsistence and cash crop farming. Courteney Morgan left the 14-acre farm to the Township of Cedar Grove. The Cedar Grove Historical Society maintains the farmhouse as a museum to preserve local history. In 2013 the society started up farming operations as a fundraiser and to provide fresh local produce to the community. We have continued to expand each year. There are no pesticides or artificial fertilizers used. Just naturally grown, healthy vegetables for you to enjoy.
According to the Cedar Grove Historical Society website:
The Cedar Grove Historical Society was founded in 1968 by a group of gentlemen led by Leslie Jacobus with the hope of preserving Cedar Grove’s History. In 1985 the Historical Society took over the care of the Canfield Morgan House that had been bequeathed to the Township by the last farmer in Cedar Grove, Courtenay Morgan. The Historical Society’s many volunteers over the years have turned the house into a museum to help preserve Cedar Grove’s history per the request of Mr. Morgan.
The Society presents programs of historical interest on the fourth Wednesday of September, October, March, April and May. These programs are presented at the Cedar Grove Library, 1 Municipal Court, Cedar Grove, beginning at 7:30 p.mAA. The public is welcome to all of our General Meetings. We hold a short business meeting before each program. The Historical Society also has a Farm Stand every Saturday beginning on the last Saturday in May and ending on the last Saturday in October. The stand is open each Saturday during that period from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Besides vegetables, local honey and local history books are also available.
The House and Farm get dressed up for the holidays each year. You can see the original rooms including the bedrooms replete with antique bed warmers!
