School’s Out For Summer!

I still remember the last day of sixth grade.

We struggled through the half-day, getting our end-of-year report cards, and waiting with anxiety for the summer to start!

Finally, our teacher smilingly said “You can go now!” and a bunch of boys went screaming out of the classroom, while the teachers laughed.

My friends and I left more slowly because my mother was picking us up. No school bus for a change! Hooray!

Almost as soon as we got in the station wagon, we turned the radio on and Alice Cooper started singing “School’s Out”!

We started singing along and then rolled down the windows of the car and shouted the lyrics out the window at all the drivers of the other cars!

Some of them smiled back at us, probably wishing they had the summer off, too.

Ah, youth.

Summer! When you are 11, it is a magic word. Barbecues, beach trips, and best of all, no school!

Yes, it was magic.

It's strange when I hear old songs I can always remember where I was when I first heard it and the people around at the time heheh!

Really? Around here school just started for summer break less than a month ago. The kids don't go back to school until after Labor Day in early September. 🙂

A song that I sure loved to sing back in the day. Still do, but it definitely had meaning for me when I was in school. School Days were not the good old days. I was one of those kids who tended to get picked on.
Alice is one of my favorite musicians. A few others can be found in my post.

Oh yeah, I remember belching out these lyrics when school was dismissed for the summer. Gosh, I had forgotten about doing that. Kids are so funny, aren't they? This is a fabulous choice, but funny as I listen to School's Out, I think about our stores stocking shelves with "Back to School" supplies, which will begin in less than a month. They seem to go back earlier every year. *sigh* Oh well, great to see you on the dance floor with the 4M crew. Have a songtastic week, my friend!
